Every December I sit down to write my plan for the year. At the time of writing the 2020 plan I was deeply enthralled by the work of Richard D. Bartlett on Microsolidarity and wanted to integrate his preposal of calling in a small, emotionally intelligent, high performing teams into my plan for the year. While making my plan I had the idea of inviting a select few to a gathering at a friends land in New Mexico to prototype these ideas in the fall. Due to all the unforeseen elements of 2020, that original plan did not pan out. However, an online research group I was participating in had decided to gather on one of the members land also in the fall to conduct an experiment on fire and fungi. Surprisingly, very few people from the original online group made it out for the experiment. Instead at was mostly a new caste of characters and just as I had wished for, we found in each other the qualities I had been hoping to find in a team. After the experiment we decided to stay in touch and evolve our vision beyond the experiment. We discovered a shared desired for action research around ecological stewardship and working with / building competencies with local community members. Think of it as the integration between permaculture design consultation and ecological stewardship training.
